"The Velvet Revolution is an opportunity that lasts," says Nikola Taragoš

On the occasion of the celebrations of November 17, the Concert for the Future took place at Wenceslas Square, attended by thousands of people. Dozens of artists and speakers performed. Part of the program of the five-hour event was dedicated by the organizers to the memory of the first Czech president, Václav Havel, whose death marks ten years this year. Our director, Nikola Taragoš, also addressed the crowd this year.
Whole speech of our executive director Nikola Taragoš:
"Good evening, friends,
Was it worth it at all?
Looking back 32 years, today I perceive the Velvet Revolution as an opportunity, not just a one-time opportunity, but a lasting one.
It is a continuing challenge for us to change, to stop being afraid of each other, and to create a society based on respect and solidarity.
The sense of solidarity and change that we all felt so strongly back then still resonates within me. It is thanks to this that Romodrom was created, which took on the task of opening doors and giving second and third chances to people whom others may have already given up on. Allow me on this occasion to remember Václav Havel, who said that understanding each other does not mean adapting to each other, but understanding each other's identity. I would like Romani people and the majority to find a common path and be able to cooperate.
And in conclusion, of course, it was worth it!
Džanas peskero drom." ✌️🧡
