Ongoing monitoring of the situation of Romani refugees from Ukraine

13. 11. 2025
From the beginning of the refugee crisis, the Romodrom company has supported more than 3,200 refugees from Ukraine with Roma roots. Approximately 1,600 of them were supported by repeated social services, the rest only once.

It was mainly about services of professional social counseling - residency status, handling all rights and obligations for staying in the Czech Republic and subsequent integration, including children's enrollment in schools or finding employment and connection to the community to access common services and humanitarian aid.

In the summer months, mapping was conducted across all regions of the Czech Republic with the aim of gaining an overview of their movements, stays, and basic needs. From the data obtained from state authorities, local governments, public institutions, non-profit organizations, accommodation facilities, and branches of the Romodrom organization, it was found that:

  • There are 900 individuals from the target group staying in the Czech Republic. Of this number, nearly 53% are children and youth, with children under 15 years of age making up 96%.
  • The highest concentration of the target group is in Prague, Karlovy Vary, and Hradec Králové regions. ↓
  • The largest number of households consist of 2 adults and 3 children ↓

  • The most common type of accommodation was a hostel (in the Central Bohemian region) and a solidarity type (in the Hradec Králové region). ↓

  • The financial cost of accommodation depends on its type, with the most represented payment amounts being up to 6,200 CZK, but in the case of Prague, individuals also pay amounts ranging from 12,400 CZK to 21,700 CZK. ↓

At the same time, data obtained from the contacted organizations showed that only 18 of them worked with individuals from the target group. The largest number of organizations provided assistance to groups of Romani refugees up to 50 individuals (96%). In this context, it should be noted that Romodrom currently registers and supports approximately 400 clients from the target group, making it one of the largest providers of assistance to Romani refugees from Ukraine.

Mapping and data collection results on assistance and support to Romani refugees from Ukraine can be compared with the assistance and support provided to non-Romani refugees. More information can be found in the downloadable file below.
