Children's Group Prague
The aim of the children's group was not only to prepare children for integration into regular kindergarten (or elementary) school but also to create suitable conditions for the employment of parents with children. By operating the children's group, we expanded the range of childcare services, which were inadequate or financially inaccessible for many of our clients.
The target group of the project was parents with children until the start of the child's compulsory school attendance, as they were disadvantaged when entering the labor market. At the same time, our target group consisted of socioeconomically excluded individuals who suffered from cumulative problems related to a higher number of offspring and the inability to provide them with care. However, the public children's group was intended for all parents with children until the start of compulsory school attendance who expressed interest in placing their child with us.
And what could the children look forward to? Primarily activities similar to those in a traditional kindergarten: community circle, physical activities, educational activities, graphomotor exercises, artistic activities, music and movement activities, and more. We adapted methods for working with children from different sociocultural backgrounds, particularly strengthening individual work with the child, enhancing speech therapy exercises, activities to develop and expand vocabulary (fairy tales, rhymes, picture reading, etc.), and visual and auditory perception using children's knowledge from their sociocultural environment (e.g., songs, dances, etc.).
Within our educational activities, we also use some experiential learning methods. We emphasize creating a family environment.
We aimed for a friendly approach based on empathy and support, which is very important for children from socially disadvantaged backgrounds.
The capacity of the children's group was 12 spots.
The service was provided to children free of charge.
