Community work Karviná
The project was funded by a grant from the Office of the Government of the Czech Republic through the Prevention of Social Exclusion and Community Work program.
The aim of the project was to strive for an improvement in the quality of life of residents in the socially excluded area of Karviná - Nové Město through the use of community work tools. In practice, this meant establishing contacts, gaining knowledge about the community (employment status of community members, number of children required to attend school, indebtedness, hierarchy within the community, etc.), identifying problems from the perspective of community members (housing, leisure activities, acquiring necessary life skills). The project supported self-help efforts to improve life in the area as identified by its residents, and the building of relationships within the community. In the field of community work, the organization drew on experiences gained from a similar project "Community Work in Zastávka," successfully implemented in 2017 in the South Moravian Region. The concurrent activities were aimed at alleviating the social exclusion of Roma people living in this area in the urban district of Karviná 6, their gradual full integration into the local community, and fostering good coexistence among all residents of the area.
