Miri Giľi - My Song
Miri Giľi (My Song in Romani) is a popular singing competition that we have been organizing since 2015. It is open to everyone who enjoys singing and wants to showcase their talent. The competition culminates in the Grand Finale in Prague, where a panel of experts selects the overall winner.
About the Competition
Miri Gili is an annual singing competition organized by the non-profit organization Romodrom. For many years, it has been discovering new talents from both Roma and non-Roma people across the whole country. This event is not just about singing. It's about self-discovery, courage, and dreams that can become reality through music. Miri Gili provides a space for voices that would otherwise remain unheard and helps those with something to say find their style, audience, and direction.
Diversity of musical genres plays a crucial role in the competition – from traditional Roma songs, through pop, to contemporary rap. The last edition was a true "cross-over," where styles, energies, and generations met. Miri Gili also serves as a bridge between the majority and minority. Music is a universal language and an excellent tool for breaking down prejudices and fostering understanding between different worlds. And that is exactly what we are achieving. Another huge success is that individual parts of the competition started airing on the TV station A11, expanding Miri Gili's reach to a wider audience and gaining more respect and impact.
It's also great to see how some of our finalists gradually make a name for themselves outside the competition – whether on stages, in radios, or on social media. Miri Gili often represents their first significant step, supported by new contacts, experiences, and motivation.
