Why Go to School? Public Discussion in Velké Hamry

03. 08. 2026

In cooperation with the Velké Hamry Library, we organized a discussion on the topic "School Attendance or Why Go to School?" led by our colleagues Bára Daňová and Mgr. Kateřina Hanischová. The event took place as part of the project Supporting Roma Families in Liberec and Tanvald II, co-financed by the European Social Fund through the Operational Programme Employment Plus (OPZ+).

Together with children and adults, we talked about:

✅ the duration of compulsory school attendance,

✅ the types of schools children can attend,

✅ why education is important,

✅ the consequences of long-term absence from school,

✅ that school is not only an obligation but also the right of every child.

We also discussed that school is a place where children acquire new knowledge, develop their skills, build friendships, and prepare for their future life. We touched on the topic of truancy and reminded that regular school attendance is important not only for children but that parents also bear responsibility for ensuring it.

We thank all participants for the open discussion and the Velké Hamry Library for their cooperation and providing a pleasant space for the meeting. 💙
