Support to Ukrainian Roma Refugees (IOM)

Providing humanitarian, sociocultural, and labor law assistance to people fleeing war in Ukraine in the Karlovy Vary region. The project was funded by IOM (International Organization for Migration) and took place from January 1 to March 31, 2023. For information on current support for people on the run, visit this page.

Project Principles:

Romodrom social workers visited clients in their living areas, consulted with them about their situation, accompanied them to various offices (employment offices, banks...), and/or provided transportation to institutional meetings and purchases for people housed in remote locations. Assistance to people fleeing war in Ukraine during the project was provided in three main areas (humanitarian, sociocultural, labor law) and included the following services:

  1. assistance with filling out online and offline administrative forms;
  2. assistance in better understanding localities and their surroundings;
  3. assistance in fulfilling obligations related to the Czech system (extension of temporary protection status, obtaining health insurance, mandatory school attendance, etc.);
  4. assistance in understanding local systems and processes (public transportation, job market, cultural customs);
  5. provision of translation services;
  6. establishing contacts with families in Ukraine;
  7. provision of basic aid items that people fleeing the Russian invasion cannot afford to buy
