Romani translations for the online television Tuke.TV

The project focused on supporting the effective implementation of the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages in the Czech Republic.

Romodrom o.p.s. together with its partner, the Romani online television Tuke.TV, prepared broadcasting for the year 2020 on the Youtube channel Tuke.TV. Since 2020, Roma people in the Czech Republic could watch two original shows, in the making and filming of which we also participated - the music magazine Amare lavutara and the cooking "show" Cooking with Maruška. The shows were partly filmed in Czech and partly in Romani with subtitles. Both shows were filmed in an entertaining and light-hearted manner, allowing for their impact on a wide audience.

The main goal of this project was to ensure that we strengthen the position of Romani as a full-fledged language, which is practically absent in the media space today and which is of crucial importance for the ethno-emancipatory process of the Romani minority in the Czech Republic, as well as for building understanding and increasing tolerance between Roma and the majority society.

The activities of the Romani online television Tuke.TV were prepared by Romodrom o.p.s. together with the partner Tuke.TV, z.s. since 2018, when the Feasibility Study for the operation of an online audiovisual media was created.

The selected formats and thematic areas were chosen based on a media survey among representatives of the Romani population in the Czech Republic, which Romodrom, o.p.s. conducted in 8 regions of the Czech Republic with more than 500 respondents, making it the very first survey of this kind in our country.

The Romani translations project for the online television Tuke.TV was implemented from January 1, 2020 to December 31, 2020.
