Work Experience in the Media Industry
The project focused on Roma issues in the Czech Republic. Through collaboration between Roma and non-Roma, particularly through the transfer of expertise, we highlighted the potential, functionality, and benefits of cooperation. The solidarity of all those involved in the project was based on mutual cooperation without prejudice towards Roma. The project also involved voluntary work by group members - assisting at the Khamoro festival, which included activities related to filming and working at the booth of the Tuke.TV association, to which all interested parties agreed due to the need for mutual assistance in staffing.
Therefore, this project aimed to strengthen community spirit and emphasize the core democratic principles that everyone is equal and every voice matters. It addressed one of the long-term challenges of the Czech Republic, which is combating prejudices in the majority society and the social issues affecting a significant portion of the Roma population.
Through social exclusion prevention, gaining work experience, and creating audiovisual content, the project also contributed to strengthening and improving the position of the Roma population in mainstream society and promoting the social inclusion of Roma.
Romani people are full-fledged citizens of the Czech Republic, and therefore equal in rights and responsibilities to the majority. The aim of this project was to contribute to a pluralistic society and tolerance, to support ethnic culture, and to promote mutual understanding. Given the size and perception of the Roma minority in Czech society, we consider it most deserving of attention. The dignity of every individual and equal opportunities regardless of their origin are paramount. The group of young people responsible for implementing this project is a clear example that Roma people are interested in opportunities for personal and intellectual growth. Furthermore, the existence of community media, in which this project is to participate in its creation, has been recommended at the EU level as it contributes to media pluralism, which the EU supports. Considering that in other, especially Western European countries, the existence of community media is entirely automatic, we wanted to follow their example through this project. The Work Experience in the Media Industry project was implemented from February 1, 2020, to July 31, 2020.
