Rescue Project
Organisation of a Women's Center for 7 months.
The project was funded by the non-profit organization International Rescue Committee based in the USA and took place from December 1, 2022, to August 31, 2023. Its aim was to provide psychosocial support and boost the confidence of women attending the center, enabling them to access education and skills development. Another goal of the project was to alleviate the discrimination faced by Romani women from Ukraine on a daily basis. Through the activities offered at the Center, Romani refugee women from Ukraine had the opportunity to enhance their knowledge, improve their skills, and engage in community life.
Who the project was intended for:
The project was intended for Romani refugees from Ukraine, as well as women of majority Ukrainian or Czech Romani origin. While women participated in activities at the Center, their children were provided with structured leisure and educational activities within the same safe space.
What the project offered:
Within the project, we aimed for women to:
- understand the functioning of Czech society and feel safe in it in case they decide to stay in the Czech Republic, and to initiate the process of their integration;
- know their abilities and skills and be able to apply them in the context of actively managing their lives and engaging in their own community;
- have a place during their stay in the Czech Republic where they can address their problems and worries without fear, take time for themselves, and build their mental well-being.
