Our Pardubice team of the HomeForAll project helped dozens of people find dignified housing
Thanks to the quick response and intensive deployment of the HomeForAll project team in the Pardubice region, it was possible to successfully resolve the situation of dozens of people who were staying in emergency accommodation at Všehrdovo Square in Chrudim. The building, originally used as a district police headquarters, was deemed unsuitable for housing by the city, and its operation was terminated by June 30, 2025. The city decided to close the building because it did not meet sanitary conditions. Specifically, it was due to: - critical technical condition (mold, cracks, danger of window falling); - unsuitability for long-term living; - inefficient operation and high repair costs; - change in social housing strategy - promoting standard housing instead of large dormitories. After announcing the closure of the hostel, the Romodrom team informed residents about the possibilities of the HomeForAll project. Clients gradually became mainly single mothers with children, seniors, women, and students who had fled to the Czech Republic from the war in Ukraine. Thanks to individual support and counseling, all individuals were successfully accommodated. Most families were relocated to standard housing - in Chrudim, where they had work and school connections, or in Pardubice, where there was a greater availability of vacant apartments. 12 households were successfully resettled, including 4 families and 2 individuals who remained in Chrudim, 5 individuals and 1 mother with children found a home in Pardubice. Other clients obtained temporary accommodation from a private landlord. Assistance included not only finding suitable housing but also transferring utilities, arranging liability insurance, help with registering with a doctor or enrolling in school or Czech language courses. Thanks to this support, clients were able to leave undignified conditions and start a full life in a stable environment. Their integration opportunities improved, especially through inclusion in larger communities in Pardubice. Families gained more privacy, security, and access to education or employment. This led to a higher level of independence and active involvement in society. The project team used funds from the Asylum, Migration, and Integration Fund (AMIF) to cover initial housing costs. Romodrom, through a project funded by AMIF, offers assistance to foreigners with temporary protection in finding rental housing. Anyone who meets the criteria can participate. More information and the application form can be found on our website. The Home for All project in the Pardubice region is an example of an effective and sensitive solution to an acute social situation. Through coordination, professionalism, and empathy, the team managed to provide dignified housing to people who lost their homes due to war and sought safety in our region.
