Non-profit organizations fundamentally comment on the amendment to the social benefits law
Prague, October 21, 2024: The Initiative for Equality, Justice, and Human Rights highlights the negative impacts of the proposed amendment to social benefits on socially disadvantaged families and especially on children. The amendment may lead to loss of housing or indebtedness, or significant social decline. It will particularly affect families with children in complex situations, adults and children leaving educational or medical facilities, children's homes, detention facilities, and prisons. Currently, more than seven and a half thousand children are in institutional care in the Czech Republic. Children often end up in children's homes due to social problems. According to the J&T Foundation, housing shortage is also the reason in 48% of cases. Instead of supporting families to manage childcare, children are taken away from them.
