Improving the expertise of Romodrom, o. p. s. employees in housing counseling

The project is funded from the state budget, reg. no. Z170602000015. The aim of the project is to improve the qualification of 20 employees of the organization Romodrom, o. p. s. through five full-day trainings. This will increase the quality of housing counseling for people in difficult life situations living in social exclusion.

The main goal is to help these people transition to regular housing and maintain it.

What does the project offer?

Employees will undergo training in these areas:

When working with the Roma community and homeless people, it is important to build trust, listen to their needs, and act with respect. Key is also **strengthening neighborly relationships** and **supporting community coexistence**, which contribute to better understanding and living together in the local community.
The tenant should be motivated to take care of the apartment by regular reminders of responsibility for its condition, support in minor repairs, and appreciation for maintaining order. Open and factual communication with the owner of the apartment is important, especially when reporting defects or emergencies - ideally as soon as possible and in writing. Rental management includes monitoring payment deadlines, applying for housing benefits, and verifying that the rent and services are properly paid. It is necessary to go through everything step by step with clients and respond promptly to any problems.
Endangered households can be recognized by recurring problems with rent payments, deteriorating hygiene, isolation, or income instability. Timely support and assistance are important. Part of the assistance includes budget work, creating a payment calendar, and debt resolution, especially those related to rent. It is necessary to know the rights and obligations of landlords, be able to address breaches of the lease agreement, and prevent eviction from the apartment in time, for example, by negotiating installments or finding alternative solutions.

It is important to listen to people at risk of domestic violence or loneliness, take their situation seriously, and provide a safe space for conversation. Assistance includes facilitating appropriate care, such as contact with a shelter, crisis intervention, or outreach services. It is important to regularly contact the client, strengthen their self-confidence, and offer opportunities to engage with the community so they do not remain alone.

Clients can be motivated to change and improve their lifestyle by listening to them, supporting their own goals, and showing them small steps they can manage. Psychosocial support is important, working on trust and motivational conversations that help to seek inner resources and willingness to change. After relocation, stabilization is crucial - assistance with adaptation, setting daily routines, and strengthening independence in a new environment.

How does the training proceed?

Courses are led by external or internal lecturers. They utilize experiences gained from working with people who have already successfully transitioned from socially excluded environments to regular housing.
The project helps Romodrom employees better assist those who want to change their situation and find dignified housing.
